Can you be a hedonist and a cynic at the same time? Can being a cynic cause someone to become a hedonist (ie: why be serious if nothing matters?)? Can being a hedonist cause someone to become a cynic? Or is it impossible to be one without the other? Or are they just a common pairing?
I think I'm both, but at firs glance they seem somewhat at odds with each other. Upon closer inspection I find that they have surprising things in common. They are both, at similar times, apathetic. The hedonist says, Fuck it, because giving a fuck would bring me down. The Cynic says, Fuck it, because giving a fuck will make no difference either way. They both may be wrong, but they both think "Fuck it," regardless. Or they both may be right.
