Excitement at the allergist's

I went to the allergist with J today, and we both got our shots. I have been getting mine once/week for about six months. I was sitting in the examining room, waiting for the doctor to come in and examine J (because I thought he had a sinus infection), when my cheeks started feeling flushed. When I put my hands up close to them, I could feel heat coming off them! I asked J, "Are my cheeks flushed?" and he said yes. Then the doctor came in.

While he was examining J, he turned toward me to make a remark...stopped..asked, "Are you okay?" He told J to switch places with me, so that I was where he could examine me. He whipped out his stethoscope, opened the door and called out, "I need epinephrine!" Then he listened to my breathing. The door opened, and the nurse (Nancy) hurried in with a syringe on a tray. I looked at the door, and all three of the nurses had stopped what they were doing and were staring at me. The way you might stare at someone who has been in an accident. He gave me a shot of epinephrine, and they're all telling me to relax, I'm going to be fine. He took my blood pressure: 112 over 62. Which might have been okay except that they took my BP right before they gave me my shot, and it was 142 over 82! So it had dropped a lot. They gave me Zyrtek and put me in another room to take it easy for a while - they kept coming in and checking me. One of the nurses told me that my face was bright red - like the red on her brightly colored Christmas shirt. My eyes were red and bloodshot, my arms and legs were red, and I felt lightheaded.

FInally it all subsided enough that they let me go home. (J does have yet another sinus infection...) Whew! They are still puzzled about why it happened, since the place where I got the shots, which is usually the first place to swell up, didn't swell at all.

My day started with a wonderful, but depleting, visit to my therapist (thumbs up on not inviting my parents for Christmas - now all I need to do is tell them), and then my afternoon had this! I got home at 5, after dropping J at school for community service, and R and I had leftovers for dinner. And then I bought a WB Molly on ebay. I am bad. Very bad. But happy :-)
