So yesturday morning there was an earthquake, and sadly for the people of the south island, not a small one! I, needless to say, slept through the entire thing, only to be awoken by people calling to reasure that they were okay... after the earthquake I slept through...
Damage was not as bad as it could have been, but at least it wasnt total.
In an odd irony, the weather here yesterday was stunning, and the three of us went off tramping in the hills inland from Wellington. Basically we were trecking into and through a valley to a river bed, the start of hunting lands, having lunch, and coming back again.
For me, it was my first treck into the Kiwi bush, and the whole experience was delightful (blisters from borrowed boots aside). The Kiwi bush is dense, and is half way between dense (really dense) forest, and something with more tropical. Trails are fairly clear, and although they get worse the further you went in, which allows you to cover good distances, even through the bad areas.
