More about our Mediterranean vacation. On Thanksgiving Day, Nov 22, we flew to Barcelona, Spain, and spent a couple of days exploring the city. I agree with you that Barcelona was a perfect place to wander around and find delightful things to look at. I loved the atmosphere there!

We were only there a short time, and adapted to the confusing meal schedules by eating the large breakfast buffet provided by our hotel, then waiting until tapas time (which was well underway by 6 pm all over Barcelona) and enjoying a good selection of small plates in the early evening. I'm not interested in a large meal after 9 or 10 at night, so it was no hardship to ignore the dinner restaurants.

Our trip was mainly a cruise from Barcelona to Rome with several stops on the way, plus a few extra days in Barcelona at the beginning and a few in Rome at the end, both in hotels. I wish we'd had more time in both cities, but that will have to wait for another trip.

Taking a cruise is fun in itself, with some of the ships being very luxurious, but you are tied to the ship's schedule and can only sightsee at certain times, and of course only in the place the ship is docked. There are many advantages to a cruise trip, but there are trade-offs as well. Did you see my previous post with photos of the ship? It's an adventure just exploring everything these ships have to offer!
