Been trying to keep busy

Well, I've been trying to keep myself sane by keeping myself busy between applying for unemployment and new jobs.

So, here a couple of pictures of things I've either done or am in the process of doing and no, I haven't yet finished knitting my socks. I got thrown at the M1 notation and so am reading Knitting in Plain English to get a better handle on understanding the structure of the stitches.

This is a picture of my camera slipcover that I made from my own weaving. The cloth was done on a two-shaft table loom (not a rigid heddle loom) in what's called "haircord." The warp was #10 crochet cotton (doubled) and the weft is Peaches & Cream pastel variegated. I still have to bind the raw edges.

Before I cut out the pieces (three total) I zig-zag stitched around them. Then, I used a small stitch length to sew the pieces together. The binding will most likely be hand-sewn on - it's white double-fold bias tape.

This piece is for Bry. It is going to be a camail knit with suede leather lacing on US 35 (19mm) needles.

Yeah, the needles really do kind of glow in a neon yellow - without batteries.
It's really obnoxious in the evening.

This one is a purse that I am in the process of crocheting out of mason cord. Mason cord can be purchased at your local hardware store. At our Lowe's, it comes in this neon pink, neon green and neon purple.

I honestly did try to tone down the intensity of the color a bit. It really looks like it comes with its own power pack for the color. I can't work on this in bright light - either indoors or outdoors.

And one more thing I've been working on... or rather got started on again is this little beauty.

When I asked how this brass-n-bead spindle handled spinning silk, I was asked to give it a try. I did, and oh my! This thing spins faster than I can draft at the moment. 'Course I ws a bit hampered by "playful" breezes when I was trying this out.

So there you have it, some of the things I'm doing to keep my spirits up.

knitting, spinning, crochet, weaving
