I swiped this from my daughter inlaw

These are the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing’s users. As in, they sit on the shelf to make you look smart or well-rounded.
The list is behind here )

Some interesting choices on there -- have Tolkein, Bradley, Herbert, and Gaiman actually become enough a part of the canon (the general literary canon, I mean, as opposed to just F&SF) that people actually put them on their shelves to make themselves look well-read? If so, that's kind of cool, in a perverse way.

To be honest I don't really know where Annabel got this list. I wouldn't be surprised if SF is leaking into the main stream.

I swiped it from another user.

{waves}

I have NO idea where he got it from, though.

But see that doesn't surprise me about YOU.

I think they were aiming at a pretentious factor.

I've been trying to finish both of the Joyce books since the mid 60's... no luck yet. I think if the Nuns tale form Canterbury was a required book in modern english it'd be baned, heck that whole book would.

I think that is one of the joys of some literature.
( I am assuming you meant to that if it wasn't a required book it would be banned)
