Some things I especially love:
Sometimes the thought of the angel’s presence somewhere near would crawl into his mind and the notion of the power that saved him from perdition would throb painfully close to the surface.
THIS WHOLE CONCEPT, OUCH. Dean yearning for Cas to save him from Purgatory because Cas saved him from Perdition...!! Oh wow. Same goes with wounds not healing and there being no moon or sun or stars - the different ways you have of reinforcing the stillness of Purgatory, the lack of sensation of time passing... Oooh, it's nice. I hope canon does something like this!
Same with the repeated motifs in the conversation with John, Dean "spending ages there" by the water, not wanting to look at John in case he can't look away again afterward, not being sure how long it's been.
He’s exactly how he remembers him, big and strong, troubled but unwavering. He thinks staying here with Dad is more than he could dream of.
Standing up is an onerous process.
and
“You think you can walk with me up that hill?” He asks and it’s as close to admission as he can ever get. “It’s higher than I remember.”
Again, RIGHT IN THE HEART. ALL MY FEELS.
Thank you again so much for the lovely job that you did! This is one I'll treasure and reread time and again. <3

Dean and John's relationship is one of my favorite things to explore on the show
Oh yes, mine too. I love the stories which revolve around it so I'm thrilled that my attempt to refer to their relationship worked for you.
I'm sorry for your poor heart but it's all Purgatory's fault. And maybe the writers', may their days be long and full of chocolate as well for throwing Dean in it. *points and nods solemnly*
This is one I'll treasure and reread time and again. <3
I can't think of a nicer compliment. Thank you so much! Your amazing, detailed comment has made my day. <3
