I have been taking my ferrous sulphate. My darling husband has been looking for a local source of heme iron or ferrous gluconate (sp?) without success so far. He's searching tonight at GNC and the local drug stores. If unsuccessful, we'll order on-line

Just a caution - talk with your doctor or pharmacist about this so you don't get an iron overdose on the heme variety. Heme iron is more easily absorbed by the body than non-heme iron, so if you are trying to get an equivalent dose to the non-heme supplement this can be a problem is getting a matching dose. (There are also several dietary factors that can influence how well or how poorly the non-heme iron was absorbed. Heme iron is mostly unaffected by other dietary matters.) There is yet another difficulty that the supplement label may not make it clear how MUCH iron is in a particular combination. For example, a label that says "Iron Gluconate 325 mg" might have 100 mg elemental iron and the rest is the gluconate part. The ratio of iron to sulphate in your current tablets is probably somewhat different.
I have several friends who are afflicted with migraines, so I really appreciate with your desire NOT to have your iron supplements causing them. Just do your due dilligence in making sure you have the appropriate dose when you switch to the heme variety.
Heme iron is also generally well tolerated, so that's a plus.
