Patty's home, or suspicious minds

I went to the hospital to pick up Patty and quizz Dr. B who I finally got on the phone today long enough for him to mention the infections and say she was ready to come home. When I got there Dr. B was gone but Dr. C was there. Dr. C has treated Patty the most. Dr. F will back tomorrow. (They seem to have a crazy staggered scheduling going on.) On her own, Dr. C profusely apologizes for not being around to treat Patty because she just got back today from vacation. She says this three times. She said she was catching up on Patty's case and had gotten up to the point of hydrocortisone shot. Said I, yeah and things went downhill from there. Her eyes widened and then she starts chattering. (She's a fast talker anyway but she was at full tilt now.) I look at her curiously and again ask about the root of the problem. She checked the records and the GI blood study came back: normal. I'm confounded and insisted Something Is Wrong With Patty and how can I care for her in the meantime while they suss it out. This whole time, she was scrolling and scrolling through Patty's file on the monitor. Pages and pages are going by. She stopped the verbal diarrhea, frowned and demanded of the assistant next to her, didn't Dr. B leave any kind of instructions? She then rather emphatically said Dr. B will be back Monday; I'm to call then and talk to him and then talk to her on Tuesday to she can add her own theories. She decided Patty should stay on the anti-diarrhea stuff until they can figure out what to do next.

So I turned to the assistant and said I'd guess payment will be on the easy installment plan. She scrolled through pages of Patty's hospitalization. She said, unless you're paying more dog food, you owe nothing. I stared and Dr. C chimed in, nope, nothing said her goodnights. While I'm silently boggling, Patty runs out totally herself and overjoyed. Interestingly, I was not given a printout of her stay. And you know my suspicious lawyer mind was over this. Two and a half days of hospital care including some sort of procedure to clear the obstruction, examinations, antibiotics, nursing, and board was billed as free follow-up care. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.
