15 [accidental voice]

Jun 03, 2009 21:06

[The journal's voice function starts abruptly to record a low grunting sound, almost like a snore. It's soon followed by an actual groan, though. The rustling of sheets and almost inaudible creaking of wood, as if someone's rolling over in bed. Then, completely muffled by a pillow:]

Where're my glasses...?

[So guess who's still recovering from ( Read more... )

[And in comes a rather tired-looking Emil a few moments later to check on him. He was actually expecting Richter to still be asleep; he's both pleased and a little worried to see that the other is awake.]

How are you feeling, Richter?

[Heeey, have a Richter lying facedown in the bed. There's a couple of random feathers in his near vicinity, especially now that he was stupid enough to roll over. He's also still half asleep. At the sound of Emil's voice, he just gives another grunt and waves his hand at the boy's general direction.]

[Aww, muffin. Emil will go over and sit down on the edge of the bed next to him, leaning over to stroke his hair gently. He's not going to say it, but he finds Richter oddly adorable like this.]

Still sick, huh? Do you want anything to drink, or are you still feeling nauseous?

[It's a good thing Emil won't say it, then. If he did, Richter would actually bother to lift his head up from that pillow and glare at him. Possibly give the kid a small lecture to go with it. Instead, he'll just turn his head to the side slightly to glance at the blur that would be Emil. Still in need of those glasses...]

'M fine.

[It's very strange for Emil to see Richter so vulnerable like this... it makes him feel even closer to the other man, to know that Richter's not perfect and all-powerful (as much as Emil might want to believe that he is). He's just going to continue the hair-stroking with a soft smile.]

I'm just glad you're going to be okay. I was really worried when you first started getting sick.

[Of course he's not all-powerful. If he were, he wouldn't have had his ass handed to him several times in the past few years. Well, Emil wouldn't know about a few of those times, but still. After a bit of searching, Richter's hand finally finds Emil's and holds it. Not too gently, but it's not exactly a strong grip either.]

[The weakness of Richter's grip worries Emil a little bit. Still, he tells himself that the other is still recovering, of course he's not going to be back at full strength just yet. He'll place his other hand over Richter's to hold it with both his hands, giving a slight squeeze of reassurance.]

... you know, I didn't go into Ratatosk Mode at all this entire time.

[He sounds proud of himself for this.]

[Oh, come on. It's not as if the grip is weak because Richter's sick. He just doesn't feel like breaking Emil's hand. Really. Richter can be somewhat gentle when he's not trying to shake information out of the boy.]

I noticed.

[He's relieved about that, too. If Emil had gone into Ratatosk Mode this past week, there'd have been a whole lot of trouble.]

[Well, you ARE sick, Richter, so it's only natural to assume that has something to do with it. The gentleness is very much appreciated, though. Truth be told, Emil rather likes it.]

I wonder why that is. I mean, I was really scared, and I got really angry at the Malnosso too. Usually that's enough to make him take over.

I... don't know.

[It truly is a bit strange. One might think it had to do with the return of Emil's powers, but that doesn't quite make sense. After all, shouldn't Ratatosk's powers in turn have been increased as well, up to the point where he could break free regardless of Emil's defenses?]

Maybe... maybe it's because I wanted to protect you. I knew that if I went into Ratatosk Mode, he'd try to kill you and anyone else who was possessed, so... I knew I couldn't let that happen. I wasn't going to let that happen no matter what.

Emil...

[That was sappy, kid. Really sappy. But he'll let it slide this one time.]

You're always the one protecting me, and I feel bad about that. I never do anything to help you.

[He laughs a little, sheepishly.]

Looks like I couldn't do anything this time, either.

You don't need to do anything.

[Richter's in bed, recovering, and Emil's there with him. That's really the best he could hope for.]

But I want to. I don't like feeling useless, or like I'm a burden to people. I want to be able to help too.

[He's quiet for a moment.]

... Richter, would you teach me how to fight? I don't... I don't want to keep relying on Ratatosk's power anymore.

[Well, that's a strange question.]

You already know how to fight.
