"... no solution, strong undertow."
So what's been up there past few weeks... let's see. A couple weekends ago I went to see my cousin's boyfriend do a show up at the Hurricane, a one man act called Vertical Striping. I should preface this by saying that: 1) I usually hate one man acts, and 2) especially acoustic ones. Anyway, this guy (we will call him Zack for ease of reference, for that is his name) put on a pretty good show, in my estimation. I figured I would go, say hi to Kristen (my cousin, also possessed of a name we will make use of), my brothers, Marlena, Vicki, and then bugger off after a few songs. Ended up staying for Zack's whole show, however, and hung around for the band he was apparently opening up for - Shutter. Shutter was much more my speed as far as bar/concert bands go, except once again I expected there to be sucking and was pointedly let down. It was pretty refreshing to go out and see some live music in KC and have it not completely blow swollen aardvark ass. I couldn't stay for Shutter's whole set since it was creeping up on 1am and I think it was a weeknight. Either that or my options were quickly becoming "hang out and get drunk" or "drive home sober". I can't remember which, but we'll just leave it as "I was a responsible adult and it fucked me again!"
That weekend, Tyler decided to show up to one of our Warcraft raids late (it was Father's Day, and everyone had shit to do so no biggie) and let me know that it was going to be the last one he was running. For those of you who don't play MMOs, these raids take coordinating 40ish people for a few hours on what can only be likened to a four hour long football drive where the endzone keeps moving and the opposing team changes in both size and number every few minutes. I think I should mention it's also about 40ish people. So not only is it running the actual event, but dealing with problems, stupid or otherwise, that constantly crop up about who did what to who, who got what, who is not showing up that week, etc. It was something I wasn't completely broadsided by, as Tyler said he would be leavin pretty soon, but it was definitely a little more work than I had expected.
Kim and I are drawing closer to the point where we'll be boxing up the apartment and getting ready to move. I'm pretty well done with the application for my loan and getting it formally approved... I just have to wait for fucking SBC to get my goddamned W2s to me. Dad's offered to load up all the crap into his rig and drive us down, which is pretty swank. I think right now the plan is that I'll end up moving down ahead of Kim so that I can personally inspect a few places, get settled into the iPay office, and Kim can keep earning money at her current job while she looks for one down there. It's looking like I'll be moving down at the very last of August or the start of September, and things are rapidly moving from nebulous dates and ideas to concrete plans.
Finally, PAX and GenCon are coming up next month, and I think I've managed a way to squeeze both into ye olde fuckere budgete. I'm sure Ian is going to flake out of PAX because he's not rolling in the cash and hey he has three kids, so I can't blame him. GenCon should be a hoot, since it looks like we roped the Kalamazoo crew into coming, and considering we have recorded proof they are screaming, hollering drunken idiots at 4am on any given weekend night, I predict very little problems and very much drunken projectile regurgitation.
Anyway that's it. bye.
friends,
