Well this is unbelievable! So many things in common we have (I am talking like Yoda for some reason!) What Renoir prints do you have hanging? I have Dance at Bougival, Irène Cahen d'Anvers and Two Girls at the Piano (over my piano!)(No I don't play well) When I was in fourth grade, we had to do a report, with another student, on an artist. So, one of my friends and I chose Renoir. I already had (still have it) the Irène Cahen d'Anvers that I had bought with my own money at the grocery store from a bin of paintings they had there and I went through when I went to the store with my parents. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it and even walked back there later on my own without my parents knowing to buy it!I remember dressing in white smocks and little black berets and we wanted to draw little mustaches on ourselves, but we chickened out at the last minute!
So, what is your son's name? And how old are your children? Aren't kids the best? Next year Van will get his learner's permit and he will get a summer job. Time flies. He goes by Van because my husband didn't like any other names besides Mark, but he didn't want another Mark in the house, so we made Ivan his middle name (was my father's name) and then called him Van, like my Dad was called. The strange thing is that now Van is in high school, everyone there goes by some nickname they have made up, but Van goes by Mark! Teenagers...Sean is also one of my nephew's name, and my husband liked that enought that we didn't have to have another son named Mark! (Like George Foreman's kids) I wanted to call him Derek, which is his middle name, as I always loved that name since Derek Sanderson (a old Bruin, I love hockey)
We will be traveling to CA in August. My nephew is getting married out there! He lives in Palos Verdes Estates at the moment, but they are planning on moving soon, not far from there though. They are getting married at Palos Verdes country club. My oldest sister lives in CA too, way up north in a town called Oregon House, she is in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Her other son also lives in CA, near his brother, in Redondo beach. We will be going out there Aug 18, and staying until Aug 27! I was lucky and could get two tickets with airmiles so only had to buy two! If you are near there, we should get together! I love CA, I have been four times. My sister has lived there for about 20 years I think, my one nephew has been there for about 4 years and his brother just went there last May. We are all originally from MA. (Go Red Sox!!!)
If you need any help with computer stuff, just ask!
Oh Cindy, I need a ton of help with avatars! Is it really hard to explain? I can't seem to get them to show up. :(
I am in Stockton, which is about an hour south of Sacramento. It's no Palos Verdes, let me tell you. I married into it; I am from the San Francisco Bay Area.
My son's name is Mason Cole. My dad's name is Roland Mason, and we wanted to honor him, but thought that Roland was little much for a little one these days. So we went with Mason.
I had to do some research on my Renoirs! I have on my walls now: 'Fisherman on a Riverbank' and 'On the Terrace'. My best girlfriend, with whom I grew up from the age of 2, had 'Girl With a Watering Can' on her bedroom wall. Her grandmother painted her own interpetation of it. To this day it hangs in her home and I think it's a pretty good job she made of it! I used to have 'Dance in the Country' in my apartment -- and my thoughts on this one were that the guy was a total and complete cad but that the girl did not know it. She was just swooning over him. I also used to have 'The Luncheon of the Boating Party' hanging in my apartment. Feel like I must be missing some. I would like to one day have: 'Head of a Dog', 'Lucie Berard, Child in White', which my husband says is creepy, and 'Mademoiselle Roman La Caux' (I think, can't read my own writing)!
Ah those are all lovely Renoirs! I like how her dress shoulder is falling off in Lucie, that is so cute! Dogs are not my favorite thing, but it is nice looking pooch! And of course I love the Luncheon of the Boating Party.
My husband doesn't like all my art choices either! I have a print of the Kiss (Klimt) that he can't stand, so it is rolled up somewhere.
We have a friend who paints and he has done some beautiful Renoir (and others) reproductions. I would love for him to do one for us sometime, but then again, he and his wife just had their first baby, so he is plenty busy!
One of my sisters lives north in CA. She lived first in Palo Alto, then in Sacramento, and for a long time now has lived in Oregon House, up in the Sierra Nevadas. We visited there two summers ago and it is beautiful but too out in middle of nowhere for me! Lots of pretty hummingbirds and deer though. And we saw a coyote on one of our walks! And my husband and the boys were by a lake walking when they came upon two men who had just killed a rattlesnake! So they took it to my sister's house in a bag and it was horrible, the thing was still moving although its head was crushed. We still have the rattle though.
