I thought Sam was in character. He has always had his moments of superiority over Dean. The I'm smarter than you, I'm more normal than you, I've got powers I can use and i'm the only one that can save us. It has been the same thing since season 1. It's part of his character, and its part of their brotherly relationship as well.
The thing that intrests me is that there has been uproar about what Sam said. What Dean said was relevent, even if he was being an arse about it. Dean has tried to ask Sam what's going on I mean it wasn't exactly subtle at the beginning of the episode where he was like "what were you doing?" I mean it screamed that he knew Sam was up to something, and Sam just lied. So to my mind Dean was justified in his arseiness.
Now, while I loved what Sam said to Dean from the standpoint it was basically - MAN UP - i think that he was a lot less justified in it. If Sam had slated him for stalking him, or he made comments about Dean not trusting him it would have been more justified, but to up and expect him to be emotionally stable after his time in hell is a little bit harsh.
I feel like the sho is setting up the finale in two ways. We know there's a devide forming, and because of the nature of the show one would presume it was good vs evil. But it continues to remain mirky as to who is going to fall on which side. Which is what I love about analysing the show.

That is basically what bugs me about the scene. But you're right, both brothers have their reasons to be angry at each othe and the arguments that Sam used in the scene are a lot less justified than Dean's. I just wish he would've said something about Dean not trusting him etc.
It really looks like the finale is gonna be interesting.
Anyway I loved it cos it was like Man Up and I think we all want Dean to return back to the guy he has been in previous seasons. Just because Hurt!Dean is great, but only when he gets better.
Also, the Finale i think will go one of two ways. Either the episode will make it so that Dean will snap out of it and man up and it will be better, or it will make Dean worse and he will slip over to the darkside. ha.
Either way this episode was a great way of leading into a hiatus.
