I really, really liked this episode, mainly because we actually got to see what's going on with Sam. So yes, I liked the episode a lot, even though at times it felt like I was watching another show completely.
Ruby:
I'm not really fond of the new Ruby to be honest, even though I liked S3 Ruby a lot. But that's mainly because of the bad acting. That's a shame since I think Ruby has the potential to be a very interesting character. I do think Ruby is hiding something and that her motives haven't yet been revealed. If she doesn't have any other motives to help the Winchesters, and especially Sam, than what have already been revealed then I could see keeping her character in the show becoming a problem. It seems clear that she's quite fond of Sam, maybe even in love with him and I don't see how that would fit in the the dynamic of the show. I don't see how either one of the boys having a "regular lover" could actually work well but maybe that's just me. So, I'm pretty sure Ruby has something up in her sleeve. Maybe she's working for Lilith, trying to get Sam to use his powers and to prepare him for being Lucifer's vessel, haha. That'd be kinda awesome. Anyways, I'm eagerly waiting to see what happens.
Anna:
I didn't really like Anna at all, and again I think it's because of bad acting. Her character has potential also but she just felt kinda boring to me. We'll see what happens next week, maybe I'll like her more. Oh, and by the way was it mentioned in the episode why she's hearing the angels' conversations? There must be some reason, right?
Dean:
Well, it seems next week we're going to have a more Dean focused episode and I'm pretty sure we'll learn what happened to him in Hell. Can't wait for that. (Also, if anyone's seen the promo for next week, I'm also waiting for the one particular scene in the Impala.) And I'm also hoping we'll finally learn why Dean's eyes bled in Bloody Mary way back in S1. The reason I believe that might happen is the way Dean kept staring at the statue with the bleeding eyes when Alastair (Alastor?) had a badass entrance. Plus the promo for next week indicates that also. Atleast I think it does. (I don't want to spoil anyone incase you haven't seen it.) So, all in all, next week we're probably going to get a lot of Dean angst. But hey, you need that atleast twice in every freaking episode.
...
Sorry about that, that was my deep buried irritation about the amount of Dean's man pain we've had so far this season. Okay moving on.
Sam:
First of all: Oh, Sam.
Second of all: Sam, you break my heart. (But it's okay 'cause I secretly like it.)
Okay so, seriously:
I really just want to hug Sam. The flashbacks were great but they kind of shattered me to pieces. I'm not kidding. Sam wanting to switch places with Dean shows us that he really does care about his brother as much as Dean cares about him, which to me has always been clear but I've seen some people doubting that. Now, the fandom can also bury the whole Sam is a rapist wank and just deal with the fact that he's screwed a demon in a dead body or stop watching the goddamn show. In my opinion Sam wasn't having sex with Ruby just because he needed to get laid but because he needed comfort, needed someone to be there for him. I think that's justified given the poor guy lived in a seedy shack alone, grieving over his brother who's being tortured in Hell and most likely blaming himself for his death and obsessing over the demon that caused it. So, I totally understand why he acted the way he did.
There wasn't much of anything new revelead about Sam in this episode, everybody knew he went psycho after Dean's death and we also knew that some of the angels don't like him (which also breaks my heart by the way) but I'm still wondering, though, what the crossroads demon meant by saying that now that Dean is in Hell and Sam on Earth they've got everything the way they want. Maybe they're thinking that Dean's death is enough to push Sam to go dark side. I still don't know why that would do the demons any good but we'll most likely find that out at some point. (But then again, if Sam is supposed to be the vessel for Lucifer then that would make a lot of sense.)
Random:
-How awesome was the scene with the patching up and setting the dislocated shoulder back to place? Very, very, very awesome. I think I died a little.
-Also, I aprroved the lack of ten layers of clothing on Sam a lot.
-The boys talking to each other was pretty awesome too.
-Sam using his psychic whatever four(?) times was nice. I love psychic Sam.
-"Sam. Too much information!" Haha, I love Dean too.
-Anyone else got a Born Under A Bad Sign flashback when Alastair was beating the shit out of Dean?
So, over all the episode was really good, but it could've been better if the acting on Genevieve's and Julia's part had been better. Can't wait for next week.
