I don't know what New Crobuzon is but that sounds like a fun way to make a city.

Ah. The library doesn't seem to have that but it does have "The Scar" and "Iron Council"

Each book, though in the same world, stands alone. I would even argue that The Scar and Iron Council are better books.

For some reason I have a hard time enjoying Mieville's characters. I LOVE his world building so I trudge along with his characters like a single old man on a European tour with annoying high school children, suffering in silence, but loving what he sees.

His settings are second to none.
