Ok, a few things, this update is long overdue and there is a lot to catch up on... but I don't really feel like typing, so this one will be undeservedly short...
Uh... left off at the paintball/nearly hit by train weekend... ok so:
I can't remember too much weekend by weekend. I know I've done lots and lots of fishing since then. Jones Mill Run (saw a river otter!!), the Casselman and Yough... lots of places. Been spending lots of time in Confluence and Ohiopyle chilling in the river(s). Caught a few nice trout in a hole under a RR bridge in Confluence (as well as lots of smallmouthies). Did a little bit of mountain biking at Laurel Hill (nothing special though). I'm surprised I'm not mountain biking more, but I think the main reason for this is anticipation for...
My whitewater kayak! It's going to be home and ready for immediate use tomorrow. I've shopped around a bit online but, more successfully, at local whitewater shops in Confluence and Ohiopyle. The first boat I found (and a very strong contender for the one that will come home tomorrow) is a red 2009 LiquidLogic Remix 69; a river runner. LiquidLogic is the Specialized of kayaks for me and it's the brand that I've always liked and wanted to someday get, so I'm happy to find a good one. The red one is a demo boat used by instructors at the kayaking school at Riversports/Lucky Dog Cafe in Confluence. It's still a 2009 but it has seen some use as it is pretty scratched up. The price is right though, $675 marked down from $1050 (remember, it's still a 2009 boat). I found an olive green demo LL Remix 69 at Wilderness Voyageurs in Ohiopyle for $625; it too is banged up. Unfortunately for WV, they aren't interested in giving any kind of package deal for a demo boat and Riversport is, so I'll be going there tomorrow at 9 am to buy a boat. It'll either be the red demo, or, if the price is right, a completely new and untouched LL Remix 69. The Remix is definitely teh boat for me, so no matter what, that'll be the boat that is here tomorrow. They are selling new Remix boats for $950 now, marked down from $1050, and I still should be able to get a package deal.
The package deal for the used boat was quoted as "under a thousand" for the $675 boat, a $250 paddle, a $100 spray skirt and a $80 helmet. I already have a PFD (which I paid $150 for... sigh). If the new boat package isn't much over $1000, then I'll most likely go with that (assuming they have new boats in stock... which I am pretty sure they have at least one). Anyways, I'll update with some photos on facebook once I get her.
After that kayak buying fun, I'll be heading out to Ohiopyle for the "Over the Falls" fest to hang out with Bobish (wow!), Ryan and, later, Jym. It'll be fun to watch people kayak over the falls. I'll probably end up getting their early so I might take my boat out/go swimming/fishing or what not too, assumign the weather cooperates. Afterwards, Ryan will be back here and we're going to fire up some xbox (you're going down jake). Might play poker with the boss/coworkers too, not sure if that's happening or not.
Sunday there is a bluegrass festival at Laurel Hill so I'm gonna check that out. If it takes place near the lake, I'll be listening in from my kayak, of course.
Monday, possibly whitewater rafting with Jym and his field hockey team. Not sure yet, haven't heard back from him. Will probably finalize those plans tomorrow at the Falls fest.
Tuesday... let's face it; I'll be out playing with my kayak. lol
Four day weekends kick SO much ass.
