I curse you
Nathan for introducing me to
Ghastly's Ghastly Comic. It is rude, crude, and absolutely hilarious. However, I wonder what the Christian Coalition would think of the recent comic. Hopefully the likes of Pat Robertson would have conniptions if they saw it.
That's not the first time that particular coupling has come up. (Although this was sure and... Interesting... Twist.) I can't seem to find the comic now, which is unsurprising, given that I must sneakernet it using a browser window that's 2" tall to keep from losing my job. The first time, Chick Boy grudgingly admitted that sexual fantasizing was okay, provided one imagined Jesus doing it within the context of marriage for the purpose of procreation.
Even after several comics about tentacle rape, homosexuality, violence, and all manner of perversion, that was the comic lost him his advertisers. It was actually kind of a big deal in the webcomics community. Not that anyone had much sympathy for this guy- the artist is a conceited assjack with an overinflated opinion of both his importance and his ability- but people were very concerned about the de facto censorship. "We don't like your comic, we complain to the banner ad companies, and all of your ad revenue gets pulled. Try paying your bandwidth bills without it!"
Only a few of the companies in the banner ring objected, but since the various banner ad providers can't/won't control which random banners are shown at a given time in a given place, they (the banner ad providers) had no choice but to pull their entire banner advertising package or lose their ad contracts from the offended companies. For a while, he was restricted to person-to-person, week-to-week deals. He may still be, actually. I can't really check now.
You ought to take a look at Something Positive. Just as irreverent, but much smarter and better written. And less likely to get you fired or excommunicated. Warning, though- it's somewhat serialized, and you'll probably find yourself spending several evenings plowing through the archives. Or, if you want more like Ghastly, I suppose you could try Sexy Losers (you can Google that one for yourself). It's currently on a one-excuse-per-week schedule, so it's easy to catch up on.
