One of the questions asked in
Everwood was - Are some memories worth dying for?
Dr.Brown urged a patient with a brain tumor to reconsider brain surgery to remove the tumor. The patient refused to do the surgery because he's a survivor of the Holocaust & does not want to risk losing his memories because they helped shape his present day character. Dr.Brown understands this but thinks choosing death isn't a better option. The patient later decides to undergo surgery & during the procedure his wife holds his hand & tells the story of how they met. It was pretty touching.
