So- still working on getting money for my thesis, playing bluegrass, building banjos, diving, watching asian dramas, hanging out. Last night, though, I had an interesting movie-watching experience.
I heard that The Lake House, which was surprisingly good even though Keanu Reeves was present, is actually a remake of a Korean movie, and decided to rent it. The Korean version is called Il Mare, Italian for The Sea. The basic story is the same, two people living in the same house but two years apart, and falling in love through letters received from a magical mailbox. The Korean one is much more austerely intimate, with lovely piano music and beautifully composed shots. Unfortunately, the DVD I got from Netflix was a Chinese dub, with no available Korean soundtrack. So, to sum up- I was watching a Korean movie with Korean actors set in Korea, but hearing it in Chinese and with English subtitles. Le sigh. I'll have to find the version with Korean audio online, but I don't understand why you wouldn't have the native language soundtrack with it. Was it a bootleg? I just don't know. And Netflix doesn't have a specific enough complaint section for such a thing.
Also, a surprise- my ten-year high school reunion is being planned. WHOA.
Off to watch yet another version of Persuasion- there can never be too many!
