I have a lot of stuff I had to prepare for this week, hence my absent posts on Monday and Tuesday. While school is bringing the smackdown on to my daily patterns, forcing me to be even less productive in SL and my side job, part of my classes are quite interesting, mainly my introduction to sculpting class. The class focuses more on contemporary notions of sculpting, which is not a bad subject to look at, but I want to do the traditional clay sculptures if I can. The classes however, focus more on concept, applying artistic elements in the visualization and all that stuff. Call me outright boring and cartoonist, but I'm thinking of slightly changing my Independent Study for my finals now that I have a notion of what the art department at the College of Wooster expects from its students. Anyway, back to the sculpting class topic: I made an 'organic' looking piece out of strings (100% string only, that was our main material we had to use for the project), based on nature. The photos I made this morning are not 100% high quality but they did capture some of the interesting ideas I wanted to reflect with the piece. Rhythm, movement and balance with a volume like creation. I got the nature part reflected very well with my choice of materials and shapes formed by it, so I am generally happy with the piece. My critique from the class was insightful since I am such a newbie at sculpting, but overall I think it is one of the few classes that I got a good start in.
