It has been 14 years since I hopped onto Live Journal, very active early on and then when Twitter and Facebook came about, I kinda vanished. Well, a few of you have followed me or know of me and have been a part of my social media family since then. I thought well, since my Tumblr page is celebrating its 6th anniversary today (big whoop), I should do an entry, my first in 13 months.
In the 14 years, most of my traveling have been to and from Seattle and Portland, along with Spokane, Astoria, Oregon and the different small towns in between. I have not been outside of the Pacific Northwest in that time but that will change next month, as I'll be going to Virginia for my cousin's wedding. Since my cousins and auntie moved to Virginia about 30 years ago, everyone in my family has been over to visit except me. When I drove from Ohio to Atlanta 21 years ago, I asked the lady I was with if we could stop in Virginia to visit my family and she said no. I could've been an idiot and say "I have the car, I AM GOING!" but she could've kicked my ass out of the car at that point.
My trip to Virginia may include a stop in DC. The only time I've ever been in the nation's capitol was on an airport stop 26 years ago and I stayed in the plane. My goal is to visit the King Kamehameha statue and have a bowl of chili at Ben's. If I'm lucky, I'll get a chance to meet someone who has been a part of a website I've been with for 17 years but we'll see.
What will be interesting is the tone of the family in Virginia, who are very different politically. My auntie never used to be this way until she got married. I want to see how nosy they get with all of us, if they're going to be completely maha'oe, obnoxious, or both. Then again, they may see my mom, sister, and nephew and go "oh no, here comes the west coast family." My auntie will always be my auntie but as for her husband who I refuse to call uncle, he's a complete twat. He used to beat up my auntie and leave his kids outside of the house as they take a nap in the evening, I was ready to beat the fuck out of him when I was in high school. From what I've been told, he is now "mild-mannered" but it's very hard to forget what others think are insignificant. Or maybe it's me that needs to be mild-mannered.
Anyway, I look forward to my first east coast trip in 21 years. As for going back home, I am hopeful to go back for a visit in early 2017. We'll see.
