Well, I'm familiar with Pocky and rice balls... they're the sort of smoothed triangle-shaped things with a black wrap around the bottom, right? All the neat specialty markets and shoppes are in Toronto of course, which is too far away, unfortunately. All that stuff does sound sweet.
Just listened to The Golden River, (and the bonus cd that came with the re-issue) and really dig it. Simple, visual, theatrical but daring jams... like looking at an envelope with lots of different coloured and sized stamps, from lots of different places, if that makes sense.
Haha, YES! *grins* Thanks for the link, dearie. XD And no, I completely agree with your analysis of The Golden River, because that's very much what listening to the album is like. For me, though, I guess I'm a lot smaller, or the envelope is a lot larger, and I'm almost in the images, or maybe drifting by them...
It's very rarely just music with me, either. XD
Damn, I didn't get a bonus CD. O_o *angst and sad*
But yes, I have to say, Carey Mercer is probably one of my favourite songwriters (along with Spencer Krug, of course XD) because his songs encompass all of those things...there's blood and fear and beauty, sometimes right next to each other. ^^;
Suggestion: If you can track it down, try and listen to the song "The Claxxon's Lament" (either the Frog Eyes/Blackout Beach version or the Wolf Parade one, though they're both very different takes).^^
I managed to find the two Claxxon's Lament songs. Really good stuff, thanks for the suggestion. I have a slight preference over the Frog Eyes/Blackout Beach version, because of my love for thick, interesting soundscapes.
After checking again, The Golden River release I got wasn't on 2 CDs, but rather the extra tracks fit onto one (for the reissue, that is.) So there's 24 tracks on this one rather than the original 11. I could put them up on Megaupload, if you like.
Ah, how fun and educational to have talks on music.
It's so hot. Looks like you have three beaks, crow.
PLEASE PLEASE! *puppy dog eyes* That would be incredibly awesome of you. XD
And yes, musical discussions are always good. ^^ If you're interested, I can Megaupload "The Folded Palm" album for you...I'd do the same with "Tears of The Valedictorian" and "The Bloody Hand", but my media players have decided not to let me rip music anymore. Xp
Hey, you don't need to do the puppy dog eyes to get me to help you out, but it is cute. Here you go. And I added a non-related song for fun ;p http://www.megaupload.com/?d=B168S5HV
Yes, I'd very much like you to upload that album. I found Tears of The Valedictorian, so I'm getting that one too.
And, where's a good place to start with Frog Eyes? I have listened to Shut Up I Am Dreaming and Sunset Rubdown's self-titled EP, if it matters.
Watched Taxi Driver a few weeks ago. Other than that, much time has been spent in contemplation and playing guitar. Not very exciting.

No, it's never just music with me ;p
