so, i made chili this weekend. first time i ever made it. i made it in a "slow cooker" or "crock pot" - whichever you prefer. i know there is chili with beans and chili without beans and there is some kind of history or something with the two of them - whatever, i made mine with beans. if this is not chili to you - oh well - it is to me.
i thought it was good but a little "soupy" so, i might adjust the receipt (or recipe - but i always learned to spell it like receipt but i am not sure why - maybe my instructor was strange).
at any rate here it is (from memory)
1 can (15oz?) of black beans
1 can of kidney beans
1 8oz can of Tomato paste
1 28oz can of Diced tomatoes
1/2 square of Baker's unsweetened chocolate
8oz of Modelo Dark (Negra Modelo) beer
4oz of Taco Sauce
1 medium onion, diced
1 green pepper, diced
1/2 red pepper, diced
1/2 fresh jalapeño diced
10 teaspoons of Chili powder****
5 teaspoons of Cumin****
1/2 teaspoon of fresh oregano leaves
a few shakes of Cholula Hot Sauce - honestly, not very much, about 4 shakes i guess.
1.14 lbs of chopped steak that had a sign on it saying it was good for stew. i did not use ground beef. i used this instead. and i did not "brown" it first, i just threw it in there.
****note - i thought this equaled 2 1/2 tablespoons but it actually equals 3 1/3 tablespoons. but now that i know, i am glad i did it this way. it was flavorful.
i put it all in my slow cooker. mixed it up. then cooked on low for 10 hours.
well, it was tasty. a nice smooth flavor when it first enters the mouth and then a nice spicy flavor. you can definitely feel it in the back of your mouth near the throat. not overpowering though. the aftertaste lingers for about 15 or 20 seconds.
also, it is dark - probably due to the chocolate and dark beer. the reason i added this was because when i was growing up in Los Angeles i remember eating a few things (like
mole) that had chocolate in them - and it was so tasty. so, what the hell, i tried it out.
in other news - Liverpool was robbed by an idiot referee and so Chelsea ended up getting the draw against us. Tevez conspired to come up with various ways not to score for Man U so they lost the derby against Man City - which actually made me laugh.
i ran 3 miles on Saturday - so the return to the gym is progressing.
a few weeks ago i had this vodka -
Van Gogh Espresso - i had it straight up, and it is very very tasty. if you like vodka and espresso anyway...
how was your weekend?
