Playing Is Worth The Pain, Says Terry
England captain John Terry has explained that he is not prepared to sit out of matches because of an injury such as broken toe even if he needs painkilling injections to get through matches.
The Chelsea defender was speaking ahead of Saturday's must-win Euro 2008 qualifier with Israel and was adamant the pain is worth it in what he regards a short career.
He will not be the only player in the team with a painful toe as midfielder Steven Gerrard has been declared fit to play despite recovering from the same injury.
"I have had a broken toe and I have been playing since day one of the season with an injection," said Terry. "It is not going to get any better or any worse from having an injection - it might just take a little longer to heal.
"Look, it is a short career and I don't want to miss one game for Chelsea or England, or even miss a single training session. If that means having an injection, then I will do it. I am sure Stevie is the same because he loves playing for his country, loves showing his passion on the field.
"It is a broken toe. It swells up a little bit, you ice it afterwards. Me and Frank Lampard do the same thing at Chelsea - we try to get the swelling back down and be ready for the next game. Whether I'd do it at 36, I don't know, but you must remember it's a short career."
Source Well apart from the extream slashiness of his saying, I'm not happy that he plays every match with an injection. Whatever the Chelsea stuff is saying, that can't be good and he should let it heal. But at least he can do it with Lampsy. ;)
