OMG! I told my mother about slash! :O
*deep breath*
So, since I'm going to the hp_uk_meetup, known as Obliviate 2009, with my mother I knew that there was a rather large chance that my mother would learn about slash, and what exactly it means.
I really didn't want her to find out accidentally, so I told her. I didn't do so lightly.
THANK GOD my mother is an understanding and tolerant human being! Mom and I are really good at holding discussions and conversations in an adult/sensible/polite manner. I we weren't and my mother wasn't the wonderful person that she is, I really wouldn't want to know the outcome of such a conversation.
I think we spent almost an hour talking it over. She wanted to know if it is suddenly some kind of gay meeting we are travelling to London for. I assured her that even if the majority of the attendants are slash writers and/or readers the main focus is STILL Harry Potter fanfiction.
She was concerned about a possible unconscious influence reading so many "gay stories", in her words, could have on me. I assured her that it has only made me more tolerant and nuanced in my view of love. And some other things I can't recall, but my sexuality did come up as a topic. I'm so very glad I was able to keep my mind cool the entire time and that all my reasonings were build on logic - and the fact that my mum actually listens!
Damn! That was one conversation I'm not likely to forget very soon! One thing though... Thank GOD she doesn't know about the porn! O.O I think my laptop and Internet access would be forever banned if she knew that!
