1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?
Built a basement.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Fleh.
Last year's resolution was to lose 15 pounds. And you know, I did lose it, but then gained back 35. This year? Uh... I can't think of something quantifiable I want.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My cousin Ashley
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Not this year
5. What countries did you visit?
When we went to Walt Disney World, I did several laps around the World Showcase in Epcot. Tangerine Cafe in Morocco was my favorite meal of the year. I fantasized a lot about a trip to Bali or India or Barcelona.
6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
Motivation to at least make an attempt at a social life. Home is just always so comfortable!
7. What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
June 18--Rachie and I decided our engagement.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Definitely the basement. I spent a ton of my evenings and weekends down there and with help from friends and relatives (and sometimes professionals) built a 10'x15' bedroom, 15'x23' rec room, and 6'x9' bathroom.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Gained 35 pounds in six months. I ignored exercise and ate like crap. Proof that my metabolism doesn't give a crap about my health.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
The last month I've been having nosebleeds on a daily basis. This week I got in with an ENT who cauterized it. Now I've got a cold with ultra-congestion and I'm not supposed to blow my nose for two weeks. That's about the worst I've got.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
My 2008 Honda Civic. It handles like a dream--my favorite car yet.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Rach for keeping a positive attitude after being unjustly terminated from the job she loved.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Rach's boss. What a unethical coward.
14. Where did most of your money go?
The house. Building supplies for the basement especially.
(Where's 15?)
AWOL.
16. What song will always remind you of 2010?
Younger Brother - "Night Lead Me Astray"
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
Handy with tools
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Hanging out with the old gang. Exercising. And I'm still kind of sad at how much I've lost interest in video games.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Eaten at Taco Bell. Why do I keep going when I always end up regretting it?
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
We slept in, went to my parents' for noon, and in the evening opened presents at home in our new basement.
21. How will you be spending New Years?
Our tradition of sushi dinner at Little Tokyo. We each got a large carafe of sake, then went home and drank wine, watched movies, played Trivial Pursuit, and stayed up having brilliant conversation until 5 am.
22. Did you fall in love in 2010?
I stayed very much in love all year.
23. How many one-night stands?
No.
24. What were your favorite TV programs?
Community, Modern Family, The Office, Peep Show, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, House Hunters International, Bored to Death, Jeopardy!, Tosh.0, Weeds, and Eastbound and Down. Wow, did I really watch that much television?
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Neigh.
26. What was the best book you read?
Ooh! That big orange Home Depot how-to book. That thing is a homeowner's best friend.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Two Door Cinema Club, Miike Snow, Pretty Lights
28. What did you want and got?
My goal was to get the basement finished before the end of the year. I did it!
(Again... 29 is invisible)
Yep.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Mr. Nobody, 3 Idiots, My Name is Khan, Metropia, I Love You Phillip Morris, The Social Network
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
It's in three days. Staying home and probably doing some woodworking in the basement. Eating at Moe's and hanging out with Rach. Maybe a little shopping spree at Menard's.
32. What's the one thing that would have made your year?
I dunno. A massive pile of money. Or a banking error that lopped off a digit from our mortgage.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
Shirts from Threadless. Jammies. Pants that were too tight because of my weight gain.
34. What kept you sane?
Prozac. No, seriously.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Jason Schwartzman, Zack Galifianakis.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
This may sound weird, but as a libertarian, the banning of smoking in bars made me really upset. New TSA regulations. There isn't nearly as much freedom in this country as we like to think.
37. Who did you miss?
Oh you know, the old gang. Jason, Scott, Tye, Tracy, Matto.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
Oh, like... twenty-way tie for all my new co-workers. I've never worked with people to which I can relate so well. They're all extremely smart, capable, well-spoken, fun... I seriously can't stress enough how thrilled I am to be part of that team.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010.
Work doesn't have to be boring or tedious. And that I am capable (and eager) to learn how to do anything I want.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Look at me, oh look at me, is this the way I'll always be?
Oh no, oh no,
Now i pray that somebody will simply come and kidnap me,
Oh no, oh no,
Everyday I lie awake and pray to god today's the day,
Oh no, oh no,
Here I am, oh here I am, oh when will someone understand?
Oh no, oh no...
