Also, Skyla isn't a peace-loving hippie, exactly. I'm just imagining that an immortal race is rather more careful about preserving life in general, or at least is more mindful about all that is lost when a life is lost. She figures these short-lived Earth people must feel that all lives are short anyway, what's a few years shorter? At least, that's all she can make of the psychology that must be involved in a culture that seems to pick "kill" as the default solution to any problem.
She does understand and accept war. But nothing she's seen until the rat invasion could really be classified as "war."
