The toughest part in making music the way that I do is finding the right bass sound. Tonight I added a foundation to "Boys Beware." A sort of low-frequency rumble created by using the sound of an industrial-strength factory fan recorded at a laundromat.
It still sounds kinda formless and I don't know if that's a good thing or not. I wanted this track to be haunting and it's really hard to tell at this point with only eight bars of music starting to develop. I think it may need a guitar-like instrument on the eighth notes to hold it together.
This track is really interesting in that I always start with the drums in production, but I swore I'd challenge myself to produce something more sparse. No drums, more ambience. The quiet song every record needs. Gotta be careful what I wish for.
