Bass is always the hardest part...

The toughest part in making music the way that I do is finding the right bass sound.  Tonight I added a foundation to "Boys Beware."  A sort of low-frequency rumble created by using the sound of an industrial-strength factory fan recorded at a laundromat.

It still sounds kinda formless and I don't know if that's a good thing or not.  I wanted this track to be haunting and it's really hard to tell at this point with only eight bars of music starting to develop.  I think it may need a guitar-like instrument on the eighth notes to hold it together.

This track is really interesting in that I always start with the drums in production, but I swore I'd challenge myself to produce something more sparse.  No drums, more ambience.  The quiet song every record needs.  Gotta be careful what I wish for.
