Okay, so, like, if you look at my posts from the last 27 months, a good chunk of them are about childbirth and breastfeeding. It seems writing about that is what most moves me. So I've started an official blog on those topics, called
Jessica on Babies. The first post is up, and is a version of my birth story with Niv.
My feeling is, I've gone through two vastly different childbirth experiences, and two vastly different baby-feeding experiences, and in the process, I've learned A LOT. I'm going to go ahead and humble myself right now to all of you who were there with me online through Niv's birth and aftermath (especially
jvinocur,
therealocelot, and
beewee). Y'all gave me EXCELLENT advice that I didn't follow, and now I know that most of it is the exact advice I would give a new mom in my situation. So thank you. Your words stuck, even if I didn't listen at first. I was just reading back through a few posts from that time, and I was struck by how I sounded exactly like a lot of women out there who ended up someplace they didn't want to be. Like, "It was the lactation consultants in the hospital who first told me to pump eight times a day, and I found that discouraging...", and "They asked if they could give him formula if his blood sugars were low... With his size, he needed to eat..." and so on.
Anyway. Check out the blog, and pass it along if you know someone who might be interested. :)
