I can NOT get Shai to nap. OMG. It's getting ridiculous. It was the same before I weaned him, so it's not an issue of not nursing him. It's an issue of "WILL YOU LIE DOWN AND CLOSE YOUR EYES?!?!" Sigh. He NEEDS it. By 5:00, he's DYING of tired. If we drive anywhere in the evening, he falls asleep! But it's too late for a nap and too early for bed by that point. On the bright side, he falls asleep lightning fast when he does finally go to bed. But he's overtired and doesn't sleep well, which is bad for me too.
He's not sleeping any better than before he weaned, but not worse either. I have not nursed him since Thursday at 5:45 A.M., and he mostly has stopped asking for it. I keep clinging to the hope that if he doesn't have anything to wake up FOR, then he won't wake up. So far, that isn't happening. He seems to need reassurance that I'm there. I've been laying with him until he falls back to sleep, which last night was almost an HOUR (3:09 to 3:50-something A.M.). I know at some point he needs to re-learn to fall asleep without me there, but I'm trying to take it one step at a time. First wean, then whatever else. I'm not sure how/when the next step will happen. But last night it took well over an hour for him to fall asleep in the first place, and he wouldn't just lie there by himself - one of us had to be there with him - and that was partly because he had a late nap, from 3-something until almost 5:00. Oops. (Hey, at least he napped. He had to cry hysterically and be practically held down before he started to calm down and fall asleep. He NEEDED A NAP. O-M-G.)
Maybe I have to throw him in the car at the first sign of mid-day sleepiness and drive him to sleep, at least until we re-establish an official naptime. Maybe when he realizes he feels better after a nap, we can try to transition back to his bed. I don't know.
In other news, Niv has been playing with himself. Ah, let the talks begin.
