CHAPTER 6
The walk home was made arm in arm and in silence while each woman wrestled with their own thoughts. Before long they arrived at Alex’s door and Olivia waited while it was unlocked.
Once the door was closed and locked behind them the passion surfaced quickly. Alex pulled Olivia farther into the living room and pushed the detective’s coat from her shoulders. She shed her own and left them on the floor where they had fallen.
Olivia wrapped Alex in a strong hug and brought her face to peer at the emotions on her partner’s face. Reassured of Alex’s mood, Olivia crushed her lips against the other woman’s and loved the moan that escaped the blonde’s throat.
Not breaking the kiss, Alex moved backward towards the bedroom with Olivia eagerly following. Aroused beyond belief Alex broke from the kiss and grasping Olivia’s hand, led her to the bed. When she had Olivia backed against the side she let her hands pull the shirt from Olivia’s pants and ran them under the cloth to touch the bare skin of the detective’s toned abdomen underneath.
Alex smiled, as it was Olivia’s turn to moan at the contact. Growing bolder in response Alex pushed the shirt up and over her guest’s head and placed her hands on cloth covered breasts.
Lost in the sensations under her hands, Alex almost missed when Olivia’s hands slid to the blonde’s waist and then lower to cup the denim-clad bottom. Their mouths met again as both women reveled in the sensations running through their rapidly heating bodies. Both women were happily thinking this is really going to happen.
Clothes were shed in a flurry of movement as hands and mouths hungrily explored. Several hours later found the couple nestled under the covers, dozing lightly after the wonderful events of the evening.
Alex awoke first, noting that is was a little after 2 in the morning and ran her fingers over the shoulder that was exposed. She delighted in the unconscious shiver that passed through Olivia’s body at her touch.
As Olivia drifted awake she rolled over into Alex’s arms, opening her eyes and smiling into the blue that greeted her. She hadn’t slept better in several years.
"What a wonderful way to wake up." Olivia watched the smile on Alex’s face when the detective greeted her bedmate.
"This is the way I want to wake up every day for the rest of my life." Alex’s kiss followed her words and Olivia knew at that moment everything would be okay, even after the time apart and shared pain.
The pair laid peacefully in each other’s arms, neither wanting to break the mood, but now wide awake. Olivia decided to give voice to the thoughts running around in her mind.
"You know, that brings up something I was thinking about." Olivia was hoping that she wasn’t about to make a fool of herself. She continued when Alex looked at her. "Why don’t we find a place together?"
"Liv…"
"Or not, if you think it’s too soon." Olivia now felt like a complete idiot, knowing she had pushed too fast and spooked her friend.
"I think that would be wonderful, baby. We’ve wasted too much time already." Another deep kiss sealed the deal.
Suddenly Olivia jumped up out of bed and ran to the bathroom door. "I need a shower." Alex looked at the detective like she was crazy until Olivia winked at her. "Wanna join me?" The blonde was up and on her feet in seconds, following Olivia into the bathroom.
After sharing an erotic shower the couple found their way back to bed and settled in with Olivia wrapped around Alex from behind. Within minutes they fell asleep, finally happy together.
Alex was pulled suddenly from her slumber by the ringing of the telephone on her bedside table. Picking it up on the second ring and hoping that it hadn’t disturbed Olivia, Alex spoke quietly.
"Cabot." She started to slip out of bed to keep from waking the sleeping detective but Olivia’s arms wouldn’t let her go. Struggling to keep still Alex waited for the caller to be revealed.
"Hey, Alex." The voice paused. "Did I wake you?"
"Yeah you did. We had a late night." Alex relaxed back into her pillows and Olivia’s embrace when she recognized the voice of Rachel, the receptionist from the DA’s office. Looking at the clock she realized that it was already after nine.
"We?" was the tentative question.
"I’ll introduce you to Detective Benson before I meet Jeff for lunch." Olivia began to stir at the mention of her name, lightly tickling Alex’s side where her hand rested. The blonde quickly swatted the offending hand away but couldn’t stop the giggle that escaped.
"Something funny there, Alex?"
"Nope, just startled a bit." Alex didn’t want to reveal the nature of the relationship she had with Olivia to the people she worked with.
Olivia was fully awake now and rolled away to allow Alex to get up from the bed. "Now, what did you want at this hour of the morning on my last day of work?"
"Wanted to let you know that the boss has an appointment at 10, so he’ll meet you at the restaurant at 12:30."
"Sounds good. We’ll see you around 11. I need to introduce Olivia to the guys over at homicide before I leave for lunch." Alex sat on the edge of the bed as Olivia softly caressed her lower back.
"Okay, then I’ll let you go."
"Bye." Alex hung the phone up, reclined on the bed and rolled back into Olivia’s arms. She greeted the detective with a deep kiss.
"Good morning, Alex." Olivia spoke softly as she pulled away. Her fingers lightly traced over Alex’s features, as Olivia seemed to be committing her face to memory. "I almost thought last night was a dream."
"Nope, it was real and I plan on having many more just like it." A broad smile crossed Alex’s face as she remembered the tender touches of the previous night.
"I would love to share every night with you, just like last night." Olivia nervously voiced her desires. The two women were still feeling each other out, getting to know one another again and planning for the future. At least we want to be together was the thought that prevailed in each mind.
Alex leaned in and gave Olivia a quick peck on the lips before rolling out of bed to begin a busy day. Olivia silently followed and within 30 minutes both were ready to leave.
Alex looked much different than she had the night before, returning to her professional attire and Olivia looked the same as she always did. Badge and gun secured to her right hip, Olivia looked to Alex to lead the way.
By the time they reached Alex’s office both women were firmly entrenched in their professional personas. There were no indications of the passion they had shared the night before and work was in the front of their thoughts.
Entering the office Alex stopped at the front desk and waited for Rachel to finish her phone conversation. A minute later the young woman looked up at Alex and smiled. "Hey, you made it."
"Did you doubt it?" Placing her hand on Olivia’s shoulder she began the introductions. "Rachel, this is Detective Olivia Benson." Then she spoke to Olivia and reversing the names introduced the receptionist.
"Nice to meet you, Detective. Alex has spoken often of you." Olivia blushed a bit at the comment but managed to regain her composure. Before Olivia could reply Alex took her by the arm and pulled her into her office.
"I wasn’t going to give you a chance to embarrass me out there."
Olivia laughed at the comment. "Don’t worry, Alex. I can see you don’t want them knowing too much." Olivia paused momentarily, working to hide her emotions. "I just hope you don’t plan on hiding our relationship when we get home."
"I wouldn’t dream of it. It’s just that I don’t really consider the people here to be friends and they don’t need to know everything." Alex glanced out the door to see if anyone was within sight. Seeing no witnesses Alex quickly placed a kiss on Olivia’s lips.
"You need anything else here?" Olivia asked from the doorway, ready to move on.
"I’m good, let’s go." Again Olivia followed Alex from the offices but this time they headed down the street instead of back to the car. "The precinct is a couple of blocks around the corner."
As they walked side by side Olivia was trying to discreetly watch Alex. The attorney’s stride was confident and sure; the same as Olivia remembered from the days spent working together. Olivia couldn’t keep her eyes off Alex, afraid that she would simply disappear.
Reaching their destination Alex guided Olivia into the building with a gentle hand on her lower back. At the front desk they turned to the right and entered a familiar looking area. Desks were spread throughout the room in pairs, similar to the 1-6. They moved past the desks, heading for a closed office door. The writing on the door indicated that it was the captain’s office.
Alex rapped lightly on the door before entering when invited. She waited until the man sitting behind the desk looked up and cocked his head.
"What brings you around here, Alex? I would have thought you’d be on your way back to New York by now." He was appraising Olivia until he noticed the badge and sidearm mostly obscured by her open coat.
"Captain, this is Detective Olivia Benson from the NYPD. She’s handling the extradition of Craig Richards back to New York." Alex stepped back to allow Olivia to greet the man.
"It’s nice to meet you, Captain. I was hoping to get some insight on what he had been up to while he was here. There might be something intuitive that doesn’t reflect in the file." Olivia shook hands firmly as she spoke, then waited patiently.
"Alex, if you'll show our guest to the main briefing room I'll gather the guys who can answer your questions and meet you there." He was already moving from behind his desk. Olivia was having a hard time getting a read on the man in charge, but he seemed to be in a hurry to get them out of his office. Maybe he was just busy or I'm being paranoid.
Olivia followed Alex from the office and into a small conference room down the hall. Olivia was still pondering the captain’s actions when he returned with two men in shirts and ties; typical attire for detectives. The men were introduced and Alex bowed out to meet her boss for lunch.
"Meet me back at my office when you’re done. I’ll probably be a couple of hours but you can bug Rachel for the delivery menus if you get hungry." She waved as she left the detectives to talk.
Olivia took the seat that was offered and noted that the captain joined them for the discussion. He didn't seem to be in as much of a hurry as before. Maybe he doesn't like Alex. She immediately dismissed that thought. Who wouldn't like Alex?
