Sub-subtitle: Between the three of us we're eating five pounds of cheese
so i can't believe it's been a month since i've last written. what all's gone on? Well, since we talked last (in no particular order) i've been in seven different states (if you include Illinois where i was in the chicago airport three times), had friends come visit, walked across a state border, seen pictures of the mexican border, hiked part of the appalachian trial, spent time at Dawn's home and my home, ate Jello, cheese, cheese dipped in cheese, BBQ, Hueyburgers, and Country Fried Steak, saw the Incredibles (great), Spiderman 2 (okay), Finding Neverland (not so good), walked around hollywood video for an hour and found nothing else to watch, and had a job interview. That's the summary: only read the rest if you're bored.
Daniel and Kathy and my brother came to visit for a week which was great. The walked around the city during the day while i was at work and i even took part of one day off to be with them. Daniel has some fabulous pictures of the city. I'll see if i can post some somewhere. Stephen and i went to the museum of natural history which was cool. i'd been once before but now that i've read Bill Bryson's "A Short History of Nearly Everything" i feel like i know a little bit more about a few things and it made the trip more enjoyable.
That weekend Bo came down from Hartford and Daniel, Bo, Stephen, and I all went snow camping for the first time. We had absolutely amazing weather and it really wasn't too cold except in the early morning hours. The next day we got up and drove to the Delaware Water Gap and hiked the bridge across the Delaware river.
A few days at school... and then Dawn and i flew to her house in Wisconsin were we spent easter together and ate Jello. A little known fact, the Vikings acutally brought jello to the new world on their first voyage. It wasn't until centuries later that it was re-discovered by Bill Cosby and promoted to millions everywhere. The first jello mold was actually developed in the early 1300's in Norway. You can study more about this at the museum of natural history. We also had cheese in Wisconsin, it was good.
I visited my first Ikea in Minneapolis, it was big and had lots of trendy furniture, lax, and swedish cookies. There was a comfy bed there.
After our stay in the north (where it was ironically about 60 degrees the whole time) we flew to memphis. It was good to see family and friends. The weather while we were there was absolutely perfect!!! We really weren't overly productive while we were there, but that's okay, we had fun and got to relax some. I got to see my grandparents and a bunch of my family on saturday. There's a park in lakeland dedicated to my cousin who was killed in a car accident (Greg's daughter) and they were celebrating Arbor day there by working on some of the trees and planting some new ones. My brother Kevin just got back from a mission trip in Mexico and i got to see his pictures. It was really interesting to see pictures of what the border is actually like. It was his second trip to Mexico.
We did a whirl wind tour of UofM friends on Thursday night and hung out with CBU friends on friday night. we ate at huey's (yeah for good hamburgers and mustard!!!) and went to the first CBU Teacher Talent Show. I highly suggest checking out the pictures at The Arts Department and Sister Dolores stole the show. The arts department did a cross dressing rendition of "Brush up your Shakespeare" that was hysterical and Sister Dolores relived her younger years by performing with the Supremes in a classic musical sampling complete with big buffon hairdo's. Oh yeah, and Dr. Burke did the splits... twice!
Thursday morning i had an interview at CBHS. It was neat to see all the improvements on the school (as if it needed improvements, it's more like additions and accessories). I think it went very well, but it could be awhile before i hear anything conclusive. There's the possibility of teaching part time, working with campus ministry, and possibly even going to school during the day. we'll see.
It was a good, although short, trip home.
This week has been great. Although the kids have a serious case of spring fever and haven't been on their best behavior i've had some really good talks with two of our more troubled kids. It's really amazing to hear their stories. One has been dealing drugs since he was about twelve and wants to get out of it so that his girlfriend will let him see his kid, but it's apparently not so easy to just quit. Our kids are great, they just need help, love, and guidance. We have today off for the pope's funeral... a bit absurd, but oh well. don't tell anyone i didn't get up at 4AM to watch it, however, i didn't sleep in either. I'm pretending to get some work done.
