Answer: Tables and chairs
I guess there’s not really much going on or much to say; therefore, I will commence to write a livejournal entry.
So Dawn got back from her retreat this weekend only to find the basement at her house completely flooded. They spent the better part of the afternoon and evening wading through water and cleaning the basement (again). They cleaned it twice the weekend before when the chimney backfired and blew soot all over the kitchen and the basement. I guess the bright side is that there’s no more soot in the basement after the whole thing flooded. They spent the night at another JV community in Jersey City (only a few minutes away) so at least they had a place to sleep in warmth and get showered up. They’re hoping to get it fixed as soon as their landlord gets in from Puerto Rico. What a crazy world.
Last weekend we had our retreat in Goshen, NY. It was great to see all the volunteers from around the country. It wasn’t as fun as last year because we didn’t have any snow for sledding and the pond wasn’t frozen for broom hockey. Oh well… We had a rousing game of Cranium Saturday night where the girl team dominated over the two male teams… there will be a re-match in May! Sunday night we were back in NYC. We had pizza at the house and then headed out to see the sights in NY.
This week the kids at school have been terrible, which is ironic since it’s exam week and the teachers are all turning in their grades. One would think that they’d be on their best behavior when they know teachers are playing with semester grades.
I spent this past Saturday at the New York Brother’s district meeting. Let me tell you, hearing a bunch of old guys argue over whether there should be one or two representative from communities of twenty or more is invigorating at 9:00 on a Saturday morning. It was worth the wait though because we spent all of Saturday evening on the couch eating pizza and watching movies. Sunday our community participated in a Sit-a-thon (after we shoveled our 12-15 inches of snow). The events consisted of watching movies, napping, and eating.
Saturday night we had a double feature: Taking the Pelham 1-2-3 (an exciting 70’s thriller about a hijacked NYC subway train) and Fargo (one of the Coen Brother’s finest)
Sunday we watched: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (a truly terrible movie); The Dark Crystal (an 80’s classic); and Snatch (do ya like dags? If so you’ll love this Brit comedy, heist, gangster, murder movie… assuming you can understand what they’re saying).
If you were wondering whether high school kids study for exams or not, I can assure you they don’t.
