Sam had no idea any of this was happening. As far as he knew, it was just another normal day. It was even his day off, so he was enjoying a walk through the park. Beth was on a mission - very simple and easy on the body.

And she had Max to "back" her up. Though Sam wasn't sure he put much faith on his fiancee to take it easy anyway.

He stopped by the playground and saw a group of kids playing wiffle ball. The boys had to only be about 4 or 5, and their dads were all around them, helping teach them how to play.

Sam had never had his father do that. Dean, yes, but John? That would change, though. If the baby was a boy Sam was going to make sure he had as close to a normal life as he could. Even if it meant he had to take on a desk job to do it.

He was going to be there for his kid so they wouldn't grow up angry at him like he had been at his father for so long.

As soon as Uriel had arrived to take over playing bodyguard for Dean, Castiel left the hospital in Colorado and went right for Sam. Dean had asked for him, after all, and if they couldn't bring him Ruby as some form of stability, Sam would have to do. They didn't need all the good work that Ruby had done being undone by Dean being left alone with himself.

It was a few minutes before there was a flutter of wings behind Sam and Castiel's voice behind him. "Sam, we need to talk."

The sudden feel of Castiel near him, as well as the voice, made Sam jump and he turned swiftly, ready for a fight. But thtat lasted a moment before Sam saw who was standing there.

"Castiel." Sam licked his lips. Then he saw the blood on the coat and his hands and Fear filled his eyes. "What's happened to my brother?"

Because really, why else would Cas be there?

Right to the point. Castiel appreciated that. "Your brother was very badly injured in a battle in Colorado. We managed to get him to a hospital before he was beyond their reach, but he asked for you."

Castiel swallowed slightly. "If you can, we need you to stay with him when he wakes up. Ruby was exorcised during the course of the battle, and we need someone to keep him -- " Castiel tried to find the clearest way to put this. " -- sane."
