Klecking when you have nothing else to do.

In 1715 the exiled Stuart King James III was invited by the Pope to say in Rome, but with the new Hanoverian King George I on the English throne it was thought prudent to send him a bit further across the Alps to Urbino where he lived in the Palazzo Ducale with a group of Scottish aristocrats including the Earl of Mar. All of them were bored to tears and beyond: "No wonder the Italians take to music and architecture and painting, they have nothing else to do." And Mars observes "the only exercise we have is shuttle cock and klecking" ("Klecking" a Scottish word that means breeding of cattle, poultry, sheep: a refinement of the genes.)
