Before anything else, I'd like to take a moment to express my utter amazement at HOW FUCKING STUPID THE CROWD CAN GET AT A CONCERT. There was pushing and shoving, it was a complete fucking sauna, people were packing in so tightly that many others couldn't breathe, and one girl even passed out from the heat. Seriously, 3 security guards had to pull her out of the pit. Hell, 2 songs from the end, I had to go get water to stop MYSELF from passing out, it was really that hot. The girls were good about it though, they told people to spread out, they were like "It's getting kinda warm up here...you guys must be so hot!". And after 2 fucking rad punk rock support acts, it smelled REALLY BAD. There was this gay guy in front of us who was all sweaty and disgusting and totally fangirling the second support group, Repeat Offender. Granted, they were good, but this guy was sweating like I've never seen anyone sweat before. Gross.
This is going to be huge (I'm commenting on EVERY SONG), with pics and all, so it's going under a cut. I suppose it could be summed up as OMGTHEVERONICASROCKIWANTTHEMTOHAVEMYLITTLEGAYBABIES. But please, have a read of my 'review' (read: masses of fanboyish comments and compliments all pointing to the Veronicas being completely and utterly nothing but awesome).
There is nothing I can say that will do The Veronicas live show justice. It was JUST THAT BRILLIANT. If the Veronicas were a fandom, I'd ship Lisa/Jess :-)
We waited outside the venue for 2 hours, there were about 100 people in line before us, and more than 1000 people in line after us. Some of the first people to get there were actually waiting when the girls rocked up, and THEY GOT THEIR SHIRTS SIGNED. While we were waiting, we were standing in front of this gate, when this older lady who looked kind of familiar opened the gate and walked out. She smiled at me and said hi and then the group of people behind us starting telling me how I HAD JUST MET JESS AND LISA'S MOTHER. *SQUEE*
AND OMG. Since Brisbane is Jess and Lisa's hometown, AND because it was the last show in their Australian tour, OUR SHOW IS THE ONE THEY RECORDED FOR THE DVD. The girls wouldn't have it any other way. I GOT FILMED TWICE WHILE I WAS WAITING IN LINE. I MAY BE ON THE VERONICAS DVD. YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH I SQUEE AT THE THOUGHT.
They started the show with Revolution which absolutely kicked some ass. We got to hear them practice this song twice while we were waiting outside, but it was SO MUCH BETTER to be standing 6 feet from them while they performed it. Then they did Everything I'm Not. Believe me, I have 2 favourite songs but I could NOT list the rest of their album from most to least favourite. It JUST. ISN'T. POSSIBLE.
Then came John's favourite song, Leave Me Alone. And even though he asked me to spare a thought for him while I was there, it was just an automatic reaction to think "Oh man, John would have LOVED this, I wish he could have been here!" Superb. Amazing. Sheer Brilliance.
They played a song called Did Ya Think somewhere in there that I had never heard before, but it KICKS. FUCKING. ASS. John, check your email. IT'S THERE FOR YOUR LISTENING PLEASURE.
Anyway, then there was When It All Falls Apart. When they sang what I have dubbed 'The Line' (Can't it be easier/Can't I just change my life/'Cause it just seems to go bad everytime) I just stared with the stupidest grin anybody had ever seen on my face. It was beautiful. THEY were beautiful. There are no words for how much I love The Veronicas singing The Line.
Secret was next. They made the crowd sing everytime it came to "Cause I always thought you were gay", and by the crazy smiles on their faces, this was meant to be their 'let's just totally have a mad time' song. It wasn't meant to be intellectual, and it wasn't meant to be serious. That song was Made To Be Fun.
OH. HOW I LOVED THIS. The next song was Mouth Shut. Now, as my best friend, it's John's job to be aware that this is my favourite song off the Veronicas album. My head nearly exploded when Lisa said, "This next song is our favourite off the album, it's called Mouth Shut." MY FAVOURITE SONG IS THEIR FAVOURITE SONG. OMG. At the end of the song I cried like a baby. A hungry, angry baby. But if you tell anyone, I'll kick your ass.
The next couple of songs were Heavily Broken, which, while still a great song, isn't anywhere near as good electric as it is acoustic (I've been instructed to add that Jess played acoustic guitar on this song, and obviously it was AMAZING - that's my girl), and Speechless, where SOME GUY from the audience (all the girls around me were trying to get them to pick me) got to go on stage and HAVE THE VERONICAS SING IT TO HIM WHILE THEY HELD HIS HAND AND LET HIM GIVE THEM KISSES ON THE CHEEK. SO. DAMN. JEALOUS. Jess was like, "Who thinks Lisa's hot?" and the crowd went wild. Then Lisa was like, "Who wants to kiss Jess?!" and the crowd got even crazier. I swear, for a bunch of straight 12 year olds, there were a lot of people who wanted to kiss her. Then she has to add, "Only on the cheek though, 'coz her boyfriend's here!"
DID NOT WANT TO HEAR THAT. AM BLOCKING IT OUT. *lalalalalalalalala*
Then there was I Could Get Used To This (yes, I had written I Could Get Used To That - I'm excited, gimme a break), the highlight of which was Lisa getting down on one knee and holding Jess' hand (it looked like she was going to propose) and singing to her. *melts* Oh, the love.
4ever was next, and there is nothing to say but that it was perfect as usual. The next song, however, completely caught me off guard. It was the last song of the night. It was AC/DC's It's A Long Way To The Top. WTF?! But DUDE, DID THEY ROCK. IT. OUT.
PICTURE TIME!!!!!!!
This picture is SO CUTE OMG.
I couldn't resist the pics of these 2 getting all cuddly with each other.
Umm...obviously.
AWWWWWWW...can't I take them home with me?!
So, uhh...this is Lisa.
And this is Jess.
And no matter how fuzzy this picture is, THEY'RE STILL SERENADING EACH OTHER.
You know, it's interesting how pictures turn out sometimes...
Inappropriate touching is NOT ALLOWED.
It's pretty obvious what this guy is thinking about.
Jess: And now Lisa's going to demonstrate how to give a blow job...
And last, but not least...
Uhh...having an orgasm much, Lisa?!
There's plenty more pics but for now I think I'll leave it at that. Suffice it to say that last night was a night I won't be forgetting any time soon. It's quite strange actually. I've had crushes where the feelings were so fiercely intense that just looking at the person made me think I was going insane, but those feelings don't even compare to what I was feeling in that theatre last night. It was nothing short of magic, and I sincerely hope someday I get to do it all again.
