Phlebotomy

I feel that I should post more often. Either as an experience or at least a documentation of my life in transition. Currently I've been working as a phlebotomist at my local hospital for 4 years. I've worked there so long, a lot of my colleagues, friends, & co-workers have moved on to bigger & better things. Its funny, I now understand how some of the older, more experienced staff feel. We've trained nursing students, medical technologists, & medical students. But still more students, new phlebotomy trainees come through the doors. Observing some of the newly minted medical student, you wonder what kinds of doctors, nurses, med techs they'll become. Some patients will curse at you for putting them through the agonizing pain. Other times medical staff will curse at you for not delivering specimens on time. Most trainees figure it out within a week, with at least about 20-30 draws a day. Usually they find out by then that they're either too scared to use it, feel too awkward with holding it, or have no compulsion against using it. I know I fit in the latter of the three categories now, but hope that I won't ever forget when I was in the former.
