President Obama said to let it go, that the verdict was given and we should respect that.  So why aren’t people? It’s over with, we can’t do anything about it except make sure it won’t happen again.  So please LET IT GO!

Oh, and stop saying Zimmerman is white, HE’S  MULTI-RACIAL HISPANIC AMERICAN, NOT WHITE! GET IT CORRECT!

racism, race, united states of america

Well....

Why focus on anyone when there is war going on? Why talk about single cases of bigotry and injustice when out in the world at any given moment something more horrific is guaranteed to be happening?

Because suffering in one amount doesn't negate its importance in another, partly.

But the big whopper of a reason is this: Any individual case, such as Treyvon's, is an example. It is a small part that, when put into historical context, is indicative of a whole, right? And because one single person can be the main building block for massive social change. Take Rosa Parks - she was, if you break it down, a lady on a bus. She is also a legend, and her name became synonymous with a massive civil rights movement. Because people made a fuss about her.

Like you said in your first comment - let's make sure this never happens again, right? And I completely agree.

AFAIK, change doesn't happen when people get over an injustice, become quiet, simmer down, and then pull out a whiteboard to theorize how to fix it for the future. Change happens when people are enraged, when they have a shining example of the reason for that rage, and when they are able to keep the relevance of that alive, IMHO.

And don't say it is racism, it isn't.

Anyone can be racist. Saying that it is not racism just because Zimmerman is not white, is automatically classifying the world as 'white' and 'other,' with these distinctions being the only that matter.

Some Indians are racist to black Africans; Japanese can be racist to other East Asians (such as Chinese); Germans and Jews have a history I hardly need go into; go back far enough, you could argue that the English were racist to the goddamn Irish and the Romans and Greeks were racist to half everyone around them.

A couple hundred years back, my own ancestors owned slaves, apparently. (I know, so much NOT AT ALL ANY FAMILY PRIDE EW WHY DID I HAVE TO BE RELATED TO PEOPLE THAT SUCKED?) But not my white ancestors. My Hispanic ones from Cuba, before the line diversified from Spanish into a native Cuban islander and Afro-Cuban mix. My bloodline is a living example that it is not impossible for Hispanic people to be really racist.

People of any ethnicity can be racist to people of any other ethnicity, no?

TL;DR

I did point out that it isn't black and white racism. Yes, I shouldn't have put that. Sorry, but I meant that it isn't what the media is saying, a white male against a black male, not that kind of racism.

I do agree with you. I should realize that it won't simmer down, that we want change but I guess I am getting angry that they are only using this case. Then again that is what happened in the past, only a few cases (like Rosa Parks) were used so I should know better.

That's fine.

Thank you for your comments as always. And helping me better understand something a lot of people would say I should know already. (Common sense then again it doesn't always stick for everyone)
