Lol, did you not watch the season at all? XD He had the nine-billion-layer-cake of sob stories, with childhood trauma, Tourettes AND Aspergers, and now a fiancee and a kid he's trying to care for. (Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OoEaj65d2k ) And I mean, more power to him for having to go through a lot, and everything, but it was an annoying case of someone riding on their sob story IMHO, rather than their talent.
People compared him to Adam, and Adam once said that he thought he was copying a bit. Especially on Idol, he seemed to be taking a lot of Adam's tricks and putting them into his performances. His shows were always exciting, but that's less because he's an enthralling performer and more because he had lots of production and crazy flaming pianos and shit. Durbin's also said that he can go higher (as in, singing note) than Adam can, though watchers disagree. People were ~calling him the next Adam, but that annoys Durbin fans AND Adam fans.
It annoys Adam fans because Durbin has mucho pitch problems and far less experience and control, and his scream has a tendency to turn into, like, a tea-kettle sound, which is impressive and all, but hurts my ears, as opposed to Adam, who (almost) always manages to find his note. He also tries to be all ~metal, which, if that's his thing, it's great and all, but he's not actually very metal at all, and the above vid/song is very... maintream rock. >.>;;;;
