I'm not much of a joiner. In particular, I am not a member of a political party. I certainly have no desire ever to run for any office. For some people, political affiliations are like their religions, but I am an agnostic

I agree that the style of the campaigns is important. I have not personally experienced the problems that you describe, but your reactions sound pretty reasonable to me. How else are you going to estimate their future behavior but by the behaviors they and their staffs exhibit?
Hillary's candidacy was totally self-sabotaged by arrogance, but I hoped it would be tempered over time. In the Senate, she has demonstrated that she can strike deals and get her hands dirty, unlike the first go-round with her health planning.
I could not tolerate Romney, but that's me. On the other hand, unlike my college roommate, I would not actually emigrate to Canada if he won. Bush XLIII drove out the man I roomed with for my junior and senior years.
My problem with Edwards was that he was too slick. I have had bad experiences of sociopaths ingratiating themselves by telling you what you want to hear, and that's how he struck me. I couldn't believe in him. Call it chemistry or whatever, but saying the right things is not enough. You have to be credible. Having his representative be totally self-absorbed sounds about right.
Obama has been saying the same things for decades (he gave a speech at my prep school in the 1990s). So he has a track record of sorts. It's just that the track record doesn't always leave footprints, like abstaining on so much of his voting record. I certainly have to respect the experience of a successful community organizer; the crap about not having been an executive because he was never a governor? Just crap. He looks good, but only time will tell whether it's real.
