I'm not sure that the more of those I see makes me less likely to donate, exactly, but if I hit a succession of beggars, I am more likely to donate to the first one I see than the tenth.

Ad-supported journals presumably contain "authorized" ads. It is "unauthorized" ads that are prohibited. So the act of asking whether some cause is prohibited could also be construed as asking for authorization.

I am not sure how one would go about having a car-wash for a private cause; all the ones I remember seeing were fund-raisers for semi-public causes, like a school team.

However, I do know the drill for a yard sale. You have to get a permit from the town. As it happens, we are planning a yard sale for this Saturday, partly in an effort to make more room in our garage. So perhaps our daughter could petition her Mom to designate all or part of the revenues from same to this cause. I'll suggest it.

On the other hand, previous yard sales have yielded total revenues like $30 to $70. There is neither time nor merchandise on hand to approach the amount needed by this method alone within the allotted time.

But every little bit would help.
