Mazel Tov on your 50th. I received an invitation to AARP when I was 48, so I'm less impressed with their targeted malings than you are. I also tend to wax bitter about the unlikelihood about my qualifying as a 'retired person' anytime soon.
I don't claim that this is the first such mailing I have ever received; I was only remarking on its timing. Offers like this arriving here tend to get recycled, if not shredded as well.
The AARP has been sending me stuff ever since I reached 50. I've repeatedly told them to take me off their mailing list. The people who answer the phones keep claiming they will. They keep sending me mail. I like the idea of affixing their business reply envelope to a brick, though I haven't tried it yet.
A while back, in the same week, the DNC and RNC each sent me junk mail attributing membership status to me (incorrect) and asking for money. I took each one's literature, put it in the other's reply envelope, and sent 'em off. Haven't heard from either one since.
I wish that we could make it up for the party. If it had been next weekend it would have been much more feasible. As it is, I have three final exams early next week, which just makes it tough to make that trip.
Sigh, Maybe next school break (June-ish?) we can make the trip.
