Subjects are hard.

First and foremost, Christmas was mixed. Whilst Christmas day itself was fine, we found out on Saturday that my cousin had died on Boxing Day. She was 40 years old, and 7 months pregnant. They performed an emergency C-section after finding her in a coma induced by her high blood pressure. Her son is currently in an incubator, but she didn't make it and they had to turn off her life support. She died abroad so now my uncle has had to go through flying out to America to collect the body during the winter rush. My aunt is apparently catatonic - she's not talking to anyone. Nobody should have to bury their child. Her grandmother is still around too, she's going to be 95 within the week. It can't be easy outliving your grandchildren either.

The main point I want to make is about how short and unpredictable life is. Make plans for the future, but don't do it at the expense of living for today. Enjoy yourself.

This has inspired me to really get my arse in gear. I hope to do all the things that I may have had reservations about before, things that I have planned to put off until later.

Then on Saturday, I went to Bluewater and met up with glitterbug. It was really nice to chat to her, I've missed her. We chatted about old times and new times. Then after going to Zavvi to see what they were getting rid of (Series 1-5 of Peep Show for only £14.99! *grins*) we decided to pick up a mall guide, cross out the stores we've already lost and put asterisks next to the ones we didn't think would make it to next year. So, I present a new game:

Who's Gone Out Of Business Now?!

Jump in quickly to claim a store! glitterbug and I have already picked our choices. If you think someone's going to go out of business who's not on our list then suggest one that you want to claim. Stores that are already known to be nearing or in administration aren't allowed (for example Adams, which I heard about this morning...).

There's no prize for winning this game. In fact, you don't win. We all lose. But it'll make the recession just a little bit more fun.

After my trip to Bluewater, I went to meet with some other old friends (friends I've had for a long time, not friends that are old. Well, maybe distractogirl fits into both of those categories... :P) at the Queen's Head. It was good to sit and chat for ages. We (being the cupboard lot) really need to organise a gathering that we can all attend. Of course, with the post-school explosion, organising that kind of thing requires so much planning. Travel for those who've moved away, time off work for those with jobs, childcare for those with babies... when did we all grow up? When I started my LJ we were all still in school, plotting how to get our yearbooks back. A point that also illustrates how long I've had this journal for. I said at the end of 2007 that I would use my journal more this year, and I really haven't. Shame on me. Ho hum. I must try again in 2009. Which starts on Thursday. AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Every year I am coping less and less with the concept that time is moving forward. Also, time is going faster too. Yes I am aware that this is a case of perception due to each year being a proportionately smaller part of my life, shuush. I feel ever so slightly in a rut, what with my working part time for minimum wage, being three to four stone overweight, lack of stable relationship and a biological clock getting no quieter. Yes I am aware that I am only 22 and have plenty of time, shuush. Try telling that to my internal me, who is nearing 60. I am an old soul in a young person's body. My body isn't growing up, it's catching up.

I never know how to finish posts. I guess they should just follow the pattern of my thoughts and trail off mid-sentence without any kind of

family, meme, milestone, ranting, weird
