Western Conference Predictions

Apr 12, 2009 23:08

Final day of the regular season has wrapped up. Playoff matchups are finally determined. Games start on Wednesday! Too bad I'm at night school for this and then my concert on Thursday!.I may catch a late game on Thursday though depending.

Anyways...the Flyers lost to the Rangers today which means they lose home ice advantage to the Penguins for the 1st round. Now...onto the Western Conference

The St. Louis Blues beat the Colorado Avalanche earlier today which gave them 92 points and the 6th seed and a matchup against the Canucks 1st round.

1. San Jose vs 8. Anaheim
2. Detroit vs 7. Columbus
3. Vancouver vs 6. St. Louis
4. Chicago vs 5. Calgary

SJ vs Ana
The Sharks won 4 of 6 matchups during the season. The Ducks haven't been too great at home this season. They are just 2 games above .500 & they seem to fair pretty good on the road going 7 games above.500. Unfortunately they are facing SJ who were 32-5-4 at home. But it's the playoffs so you never know! Sharks in 6.

DET vs CLB
This is my 1st round upset right here. Congrats to the Blue Jackets for finally making the post season for the 1st time in their franchise history. Unfortunately you get to face the reigning Stanley Cup champions. You do have your work cut out for you but I am confident that you will prevail. Wings goaltending has been terrible this season. They've just won a lot of games due to amazing D and O. They are the highest scoring team in the league. Doesn't matter! Columbus in 7!

Van vs STL
The Blues are HOT in the last couple of months. Chris Mason has been amazing! So many young & fast guys. This series could go either way as well. I wouldn't be surprised if the Blues take it. Sedin twins have to continue their dominance and Sundin has to step it up a notch but I see the Canucks making it to the Conference Finals. Luongo is just too damn good of a goalie. Canucks in 6

Chi. vs CGY
As much as I'd love to see the Flames win; heck even take the cup, I don't see them getting past the Hawks. They are too fast. 2 amazing goalies in Huet and Khabibulin. Their D is stacked. It's hard to bet against them. Unless Jokinen can start scoring and Cammalerri continues his amazing season, I see the Hawks taking it in 5.
