Long trip yesterday flying around and then a long bus trip - but I'm in Maine! So far everything is going well. I usually would go into a long rambling post about what I've learned and how cool people have been, but Gordon Conferences are off the record, so No talkie to you!
Suffice it to say, it's a great group of people with some great conversations!
I'm checked into a dorm room on a small liberal arts college campus (Colby College) - and it's so funny to be back in this routine. Day-to-day conversation with the roommate, communal showers, cafeteria food with everyone you see all day long in 'classes'... except that there is alcohol provided every night on the 1st floor of the building for a social hour! Mojito night, cheesecake night, lobster bake night, open bars. Chemical Education all day! It's a great campus - really beautiful. They're library is on a tall hill overlooking miles of beautiful Maine countryside.
It's been rainy/drab ever since we arrived, but even with the near-fog-like conditions, from the library door I can probably see for 2 miles. And that is with the cool effect of rolling hills in fog that you seem to get so wonderfully on the east coast foothills.
So far, so great! I wish I could get used to sleeping on a hard, plastic, loud twin bed again. Granted, Hope's weren't so much plastic and hard as mushy and old. Nothing a piece of plywood couldn't compensate for. But I swear Colby is afraid you'll wet the bed. I'll be good! Promise! Let me not crinkle in my sleep!
I've gotten approximately 7 hours of sleep in the past 2 days and we'll see how this morning's talks go. If only there weren't the enticing social hour with drinks and networking every night from like 10 until midnight, I may have an excuse to duck out early and hit the hay. At least we have every afternoon free from 1-6pm for soccer, kayaking, games, and (for me, today) a little bit of a nap!
