I have been in poltics for a long time. Mayoral campaings, state senate campaings, fundraisers, knocked on doors, held signs in bitter cold, and have even made phone calls on behalf of canidates. I have seen and done a lot polticaly in my still young life, but nothing was like what I saw yesterday evening.
The Obama rally in the Hartford Civic Center (now The XL center) was truly the most amazing thing I have ever been envolved with polticaly. Before he even spoke, I knew this was something special. To paint the picture this way, if you have ever been to the Civic Center you have some idea of its size. If you have not, to get an idea it dwarfs the size of the Mass Mutual Center or the arena at Umass and can hold about 17,000 people give or take. Upon getting into the arena you knew with the line outside that encirculed the arena, this place was going to fill up and then some.
As I looked around the stands I was pleased. The audiance was the true portrait of America. Young, old, black, white, latino, asian, imigrant, vetran, disable, union teachers & pipe fitters, republican and democrat together as a nation to see the man that could bring back, well hope, that has been missing for far to long.
After taking everthing in, and snaping some realy bad pictuers, I settled down once the envited poltical guests spoke. Caroline Kenndy had some great words as well at good old Teddy. With the end of Teddys speech Obama enters the room to give his rousing words.
I have seen Obama make speaches on the TV or internets box, but not in person. I was drawn into the words, his movement and his abilty to connect. I smiled, I cried and most of all my heart was filled with hope, that is offten lacking in the worlds I work and live. As I was there I knew, I knew I was making the right vote today and I know this man could be our next leader!
If you have not voted yet, please do! And please cast that vote for Obama. That is what I did. It was a vote for the child with no hope, the homeless vet and the eldery person that can not afford their medication just to name a few. This is a important election we need change and Obama is the man that can do this.
