Alabama is growing into a distant memory and that is nice. We are now firmly back into life in Goldsboro. My life and interest in livejournal are both at a comfortable mediocre right now. Nothing flashy...nothing earth shattering. I'm reducing to highlights:
We found a beautiful material that is a substitute for stainless steel countertops...sort of a "faux" stainless. Still it was going to be $5000 vs $2000 if we go with the nicer grade laminate. We are going for the laminate.
The rest of the remodel ....open den and kitchen into one large room and turn large closet into half bath..is basically quoted at around $15,000. This could be chopped into three smaller jobs. This is in addition to us replacing all light fixtures, outlets and eventually refinishing floors.
My leanings are toward a home improvement load to pay off over ten years and enjoy it all now. Nicola leans toward saving for a job and then saving for the next etc..over a period of 10 to 12 years....I refuse to allow it to be a source of frustration and tension by just doing a temporary coat of paint here and there until it all comes together.
There will be no Boyette Christmas part this year....house will not be ready.
My friend Rose and I are starting a staging business. We are ready for a December kickoff by sponsoring a tea at the local arts counsel. Just have to get website up and checking account opened by then. Some realtors have our cards and are very enthusiastic.
I' ve been invited to have a small "one man show' at the arts council if I can get 15 or so paintings done by the new year...it usually takes me about two weeks to do one....not so sure.
Broland remains a central figure in our daily/weekly lives. He is even occasionally coming to church and participating in events without us...which is good. Eric is now a "step-dad" and we see little of him.
In the last month, two friends have come to us letting us know their marriage is ending. ..and I'm talking "conservative, christian, only listen to christian music, focus on the family" types! THAT is so alarming to me. Another guy from small group is also in the same situation but he and his wife are new to the whole "church' thing and have a long history of problems....but the first couple!!!!! Scares me. I'm taking Nicola out for a date!!
John Mayer concert on Wednesday!!!!
