Well, I made it through the first week of school, although it was really only a partial week. Monday was nothing for me, but I worked a half day and then watched a colleague's 2 kids in the afternoon so she could do CPR/First Aid class. Tuesday we had opening ceremonies, then the kids had a rotation of stuff to do, I headed home around noon to wait for the oven repair guy. Finally, our oven is usable. Tuesday night I baked chicken strips for dinner (home made), and baked cookies at the same time. Tonight, LB and I made a double batch of chocolate chip banana bread.
Classes started in earnest on Wednesday. We had all 7 classes on Wednesday, 45 minutes each. Then our normal rotation started on Thursday, 6 classes per day. I've felt out of sorts and not ready for classes for much of the week, but today I ended with my AP B class, the course that I've taught for the longest time and the one that I'm most comfortable with. And after that class ended, I thought to my self, "Now I remember why I do this job, I like teaching." It was nice to have that feeling again, and hopefully soon it'll be normal.
I know that this year has to be better than last, but there are different challenges - like the fact that every kid has an iPad which can be a big distraction in class (but so far so good), and that not every kid has a textbook because the ordering got screwed up because of the iPads. These seem minor inconveniences and I'm looking forward to feeling more and more settled over the course of the next few weeks.
I do plan to enjoy the long weekend, mostly unplanned, but there are a few plans here and there.
I'm tired tonight though, so I'll end here before I start babbling more. Good night.
