It's been quiet around these here parts. Let's change that!
I come bearing scans from the latest issue of JSA, and full of spoilers. Rather than post every single awesome page in the book (oh, nearly every page), I'm going to be focusing on Wildcat & Son or this issue.
First, a recap.
For the past couple of issues, this mysterious god named Gog is walking the earth to save humanity. War, famine, all has been eliminated in Gog's path. In response to the JSA's rising suspicions of his intentions, Gog bestows miracles onto several members of the group. Damage's scarred face is healed, Doc Midnite's blindness is replaced with normal vision, Starman's schizophrenia disappears, and most astoundingly, Lance Corporal Reid is brought back to life.
Although Alan and Jay do refer to the young members as 'children', they treat them as equals. Ted, on the other hand, is having none of that. He's old school and expects the younger generation to hold their elders in esteem. As we see, he isn't afraid to put them in place when the occasion arises. Also, Ted standing up for Alan makes my slash-loving fangirl heart beat madly. *le sigh*
I lol'd so hard in the store reading this. Though at the same time, ouch. That's got to be hugely embarrassing to Tommy to have his teammates hear that.
The way I read the scene was Ted thinking Amazing Man gave him some lip earlier, and now he's going to take advantage of the situation. Yikes.
Go, Tommy! Though even whilst standing up to his dad, Tommy's posture is still that of someone less than equal.
And now, some rambling:
I love the buildup of Ted and Tommy's relationship. It's very interesting to me that when the two first met they were equal (in the sense both were strangers) and soon after their awkward dynamic leaned towards Ted calling all the shots. Tommy's a grown man -- is it hero worship, or the longing for a father figure that makes him accept being bossed around?
And we know Ted has said he wasn't cut out to be a father. Despite this, Ted settled into being the alpha in the relationship very quickly, taking Tommy under his wing, and guiding him to learn to fight and be a man. So whatever Ted may say, he is a dad :D
Now, since I'm a relatively new Wildcat fan, I don't have a good grasp of him pre-Tommy in the JSA. Would anyone give me an idea of how he treated Courtney and Jakeem back then?
