Title: Thoughts
Author: Me
Rating: PG
Characters: The Doctor (10)/Rose
Summary: Rose's thoughts on her and the Doctor. Set at the beginning of the episode: 'New Earth'.
A/N: Written just because I felt like it. I was really in the mood to try something for this ship, and so I did. First DW thing I've ever written, in fact. It's exciting.
Disclaimer: *sigh*

Thoughts:

Rose pulled the door to the TARDIS open after inserting the key, then went inside, a smile stretching across her lips.

She was home.

Her hand ran across the coral struts of the ship as she passed, hearing the pleased hum that came from her. Tongue poking between her teeth, Rose dropped her backpack on the grated floor, then went over to the Doctor, who was looking at her, his brown eyes warm and his smile a sight that made her heartbeat quicken. At the faintest twitch from the corner of his lips she knew he'd noticed and ducked her head, then planted her hands against the console, curious.

"So, where are we off to then?"

He smiled, then fiddled with a few switches before he pulled down a lever, sending the TARDIS flying towards their destination. "Farther than we've ever gone before."

She laughed, blonde hair falling into her eyes. Trying to hide a smile, which was a futile action, she pushed her fingers through her hair, then sighed, looking around. Being home with her mum and Mickey was wonderful, a breath of fresh air, but nothing could beat this. Nothing. As she had once said, it wasn't seeing the aliens, spaceships, and different planets, no. Those were wonderful, but the paled in comparison of traveling with him. With her doctor.

Her doctor? That wasn't right. He belonged to no one. Yet, oh, how she sometimes wished that something could be between them. Sometimes, when she spoke to him, and he smiled that eye-crinkling smile of his, she'd want to grab him and snog the living daylight out of him, cross the line between friendship and lovers. It wasn't to be, though. Even if she wanted him, and even if she sometimes thought he might want her in return, they never went there. Never asked, never talked about it, nothing. And then there was the moment where he'd changed into an entirely different person - but with the same memories - and they'd both been confused as to whether she should stay or leave.

Thank goodness she'd stayed. She'd made the decision long ago that there was nothing left for her on Earth, nothing. The Doctor was her life now, she'd never trade what she'd experienced and seen for nothing, not even when he changed, not even if they were never anything more than good mates, friends, people to reply on.

However, Rose thought, I can still wish, yeah?

"Rose." She blinked and looked up, startled. The Doctor stood there, studying her face with such intensity that she had to mentally block the heat that wanted to flood her cheeks. "We're here." He held out his hand, then, wiggling his fingers, and after a moment she took it, wrapping her hand about his, stunned for the billionth time at the way their fingers laced just perfectly, as if they'd been made for each other. Her heart fluttered again and he chuckled, then pulled her along towards the TARDIS's door, leading her onto another, probably dangerous, adventure.

And for the moment she was perfectly content to just being friends.

Just for the moment.
